Writer's Workshop (4th-5th Grades) Live Online: Wednesdays 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. EST Dates: Aug. 25, 2021 - May 11, 2022
Instructor: Renee Metcalf
Course Description: In this course, young writers learn various skills to help them write summaries, stories, and reports almost effortlessly (at least without tears). Note-taking and outlining skills (the foundation of this course) help students organize their thoughts and help them to write in their own words. This builds both ability and confidence. Vocabulary words are learned and used in the writing throughout the course. Using IEW's newly updated curriculum, students enjoy writing about topics such as horses, desert creatures, animal races, and life in the Middle East. They write their own versions of fables and fairy tales and biographies about fascinating people and places. Each lesson is accompanied by a checklist so that students know what is expected along with expert feedback from an instructor experienced in teaching with IEW materials. Writing can be fun!
